While it is still early in 2024, we have seen disheartening news surrounding immigration as federal budget negotiations threaten to unravel the U.S. asylum system. Although the outcome of these negotiations is yet unknown, the budget deal in its current form would exact a heavy price: more families separated, more children detained, more people sent back to face persecution, torture, and even death, and ultimately more danger for immigrants across the United States and at the border.

Stand with us to protect the rights of immigrant Oregonians who have lived in our communities for years by supporting Oregon House Bill 4085. This crucial bill directs the Oregon Department of Human Services to provide individual grants to noncitizens to change their immigration status or obtain lawful permanent resident status. These grants are an important step toward creating safety and stability for immigrant families and recognizing the immense contributions immigrants make by enriching our communities and strengthening our economy.
