ICS is Oregon’s oldest independent non-profit law firm advocating for immigrants and refugees in Oregon and southwest Washington. Our mission is to achieve equity and justice for immigrants and their families by providing accessible legal services to uphold their legal rights. Through deliberate and direct engagement, ICS brings immigrant voices and experiences to the decision-making table. We honor and respect the contributions made by immigrants to keep our economy strong and our communities vibrant.
Founded in 1978, ICS has represented thousands of immigrants and refugees from more than 100 countries. We collaborate with community partners to meet the basic needs and restore the fundamental human rights of immigrants and refugees by providing:
General legal services, including preventing wrongful deportation, keeping families together, achieving citizenship, and securing work authorizations;
Education, legal services, and legal defense for unaccompanied children, who are immigrants under the age of 18 that are apprehended at the border without a parent and detained in facilities in Oregon;
Monthly mobile legal clinics to provide services in underserved rural communities; and
Free community education presentations to educate vulnerable immigrants on their legal rights.
Defending immigrants and refugees against deportation not only protects their safety and wellbeing but provides immediate and meaningful access to a host of fundamental human rights: freedom from violence, access to health and education, and the ability to earn a living wage. We provide culturally and linguistically specific services to clients from all over the world, such as Afghanistan, Ghana, Mexico, Myanmar, and Ukraine. We proudly advocate for the rights of LGBTQIA+ people seeking asylum in the United States.
